Tijuana Fights Back

At the intersection of  Avenida Revolución and Calle Primera, under the city’s famed “monumental” clock, Tijuana hosted the open-air “Guantes de Oro” (Golden Gloves) state-wide amateur boxing championship finals on Sunday.

A stone’s throw from prostitution lane and with entire families rooting for their favorites, street vendors peddled sunflower seeds by the basketful, pick-up trucks delivered trophies mid-fight, trainers revved up their fighters, fathers took swigs of hootch from well hidden flasks and kids shadow boxed the afternoon away.
