After “Top Gear” Snub, Mastretta MXT Orders “Pouring In”

After being predicted to be  “lazy,” “feckless” and “flatulent” by presenters of BBC programme Top Gear, Mexican automaker Tecnoidea—developers of the country’s first-ever sports car: the Mastretta MXT, are getting the last laugh with increasing expectation and  a slew of orders.

It was a real annoyance, because in truth, the show used the car as a pretext to make comments said to be humorous, but which in reality were xenophobic, discriminatory and racist.

Company GM Carlos Mastretta told APF at the company’s factory in Ocoyoacac, 45 kilometers (some 28 miles) from Mexico City.

In business since 1987, Tecnoidea has developed over 30 public transportation vehicles for companies like Volvo,VW and Mercedes-Benz.

Five years in the making, and with a price tag of around $60,000 the MXT goes from 0 to 62 in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 143 MPH.

Since the Top Gear melee, Mastretta says orders have been pouring in from the U.S., Brazil and Chile, and expects for the car to make its debut in the UK in under two months.

Step it up, Vochol.
