BREAKING NEWS: It’s gonna be a Zonkey Christmas

Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante Anchondo made the yuletide ga-ga-gay by lighting a 15-meter high Christmas tree on the corner of Avenida Revolución and Calle 1a. this past Tuesday.

The ceremony was the kick-off to the “Festival Navideño de la Avenida Revolución” which will feature an array of family friendly activities from December 15-24,  including an outdoor crafts market, puppet shows and performers on stilts.

An effort that Tijuana branch of the National Chamber of Commerce’s vice president of tourism, Julián Palombo Saucedo, hopes will produce a cross-border influx:

The idea is to invite people from both sides of the border. There’s a rebirth of activities [in the Avenida]…it’s more alive now that it has been in the last couple of years, and we’re working towards bringing back the good old days.

Palombo told TJ daily El Sol de Tijuana.

The kicker? (And let me turn on my Kanye key here) SANTA RIDING ON A ZONKEY-DRAWN SLEIGH!

Apparently St. Nick got tired of Rudolph’s union threats and decided to outsource, get hopped up on Licor de Damiana (the original Four Loko) and get a good yule logging at nearby Adelitas.

Wear a raincoat big guy, or in your case some snow shoes.
